Old college try

The Raiders dipped into the college ranks to find their next offensive coordinator and hired Chip Kelly from Ohio State, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Sunday. The former Eagles and 49ers coach is expected to become the NFL’s highest paid assistant with a deal that averages $6 million per year. One of his first tasks will be aiding the team’s quarterback search.

QB dilemma
The Raiders need to upgrade at the quarterback position. But their roster has so many holes that they shouldn’t mortgage their future for a flawed prospect. Here’s what columnist Ed Graney believes the Raiders should do this offseason.
Reunion speculation
Quarterback Russell Wilson sidestepped several questions at the Pro Bowl Games about potentially reuniting with his former Seattle coach Pete Carroll with the Raiders. Wilson is a pending free agent.
Mock draft
While trading up might not be the best idea, the Raiders were able to stay put and land their potential franchise quarterback with the sixth pick in the Review-Journal’s post-Senior Bowl NFL mock draft. The team has eight selections in the draft but is projected to be awarded two more compensatory picks in the sixth round.
Senior Bowl observations
The Raiders watched several standouts at last week’s Senior Bowl practices. The information they gathered won’t entirely guide their decisions, but will help shape their thought process as they prepare for the NFL draft.
